We strive to reduce emissions, protect the environment, and create a cleaner home for all of us in Putnam County, NY.
Who We Are
Sustainable Putnam is a grassroots nonprofit organization with the goal of developing socially equitable, ecologically and economically sustainable Putnam County communities.
What We Do
Sustainable Putnam seeks to educate and advise residents and public officials about the options for re-developing our homes, hamlets, towns and county on an equitable, just, and an economically and environmentally sustainable basis.
We tackle programs and projects which aim to reverse global warming through a rapid reduction in our individual and collective carbon footprints.
We also focus our efforts on developing preparedness and resilience projects and strategies relating to the current and future effects of climate change, for residents across the economic spectrum.
We establish partnerships with like-minded NGOs and government agencies to implement many of the above programs and projects, in accordance with the principles of Project Drawdown and the triple bottom line.
How We Do It
We consistently act as dedicated stewards of our environment for this and future generations, nurture and establish social equity amongst all our residents, and promote a sustainable local economy in harmony with these ecological and social goals.
How Will We Make This Happen?
Sustainable Putnam is only as successful as the combined efforts of its members and organizers. Many residents have told us that they want to be able to tell their children and grandchildren that they did their part.
This is our opportunity to be the change we want to see.
