As of 2018, the population of Philipstown was 9,731. The town is governed by a Town Board made up of its Supervisor and four Council members. The Villages of Cold Spring and Nelsonville lie within the town’s limits; each has its own village government (see links below). Philipstown has two school districts and two public libraries.
The Town of Philipstown has a very active and successful Climate Smart Community Task Force and its own 100% renewable energy campaign called Philipstown Fights Dirty.
