As of 2018, the population of Philipstown was 9,731. The town is governed by a Town Board made up of its Supervisor and four Council members. The Villages of Cold Spring and Nelsonville lie within the town’s limits; each has its own village government (see links below). Philipstown has two school districts and two public libraries.
Sustainable Putnam strongly encourages each of our towns to participate in either or both of the Climate Smart Community or Clean Energy Community programs. The Town of Philipstown has a very active and successful Climate Smart Community Task Force and its own 100% renewable energy campaign called Philipstown Fights Dirty.
