Sustainable Putnam

Remembering Curtis Watkins

Curtis Watkins

We are sad to acknowledge the recent death of our friend and colleague, Curtis Watkins. Curtis was an engaged, long-time advocate for the environment, and especially passionate about protecting and reclaiming natural habitats.

In the year past, Curtis led a volunteer “meadowing” effort at Tompkins Corners Cultural Center, removing invasive nonnative plants and preparing the ground for the planting of native pollinator plants to commence this Spring. The year before, he began converting his own lawn into a meadow, planting native plants to support the Pollinator Pathway.

Curtis was a founding board member of Sustainable Putnam. His provocative authenticity often challenged the rest of the board to think clearly and thoroughly. We will so miss his deep commitment, his rigor, his generosity, and his laughter.
