Indigenous Peoples of the Hudson River Valley
Understanding Past Cultures in the Hudson Valley through Archaeology
A talk by Dr. Eugene Boesch
April 1, 2023 @ 10:00 am – 11:30 am
Dr. Boesch will examine Indigenous Native American cultures and adaptations in the southeastern New York region from the area’s earliest occupation by humans at least 13,000 years ago, through European contact, 1550-1750. Co-sponsored by Mahopac Public Library and Sustainable Putnam.
Eugene Boesch has undertaken archaeological investigations in the Hudson Valley area for over 30 years. He received his Ph.D. and other degrees from New York University. Dr. Boesch’s work has primarily focused on Pre-Contact period cultures and adaptations in the Eastern Woodlands of North America and on early Euro-American settlement in the Hudson Valley region. He has also worked in Israel, California, and throughout the mid-western United States.
