Sustainable Putnam

Our Mission

Sustainable Putnam promotes sustainable practices, policies, and action to achieve climate resilience. We strive for solutions that are ecologically sound, socially equitable, and economically responsible.

Sustainable Putnam focuses its work on the local level. This includes every town and village government, school, library, as well as our businesses, households, and residents. We promote sustainable practices, policies, and action to achieve climate resilience, with a particular focus on assisting individuals and households in need, and the institutions that support them.

See below for more about the values that drive our work.

Our Values

We believe that by developing strong partnerships across our community
we can create a better Putnam County for all.

To do this, we uphold the following values:

Community

We believe a community is only as strong as the sense of belonging shared by its members. We strive to build community by bringing people together to work toward shared goals.

Collaboration

We believe in the power of collaboration. Greater participation yields broader perspectives, experience, and skills. Collaboration results in solutions that work for all.

Responsibility

We believe that each of us bears some responsibility for strengthening our community. We strive to make our community a better place to live, work, and play.

Sustainability

We believe in the value of sustainability, because it compels us to think about past, present, and future generations. When we act sustainably, we demonstrate respect for one another and for the future.

Accountability

We hold ourselves accountable for everything we do, and embrace practices that allow others to hold us accountable.

Transparency

We believe transparency fosters honesty and builds trust amongst partners. It encourages us to use others' ideas and feedback in a more creative approach to problem solving.
