The Mahopac Middle School cafeteria was hopping with activity last Saturday as 20 volunteers assisted local residents with repairs. From toasters to a toy fire truck, more than 30 household items were successfully repaired and saved from the landfill or incinerator.
There’s no doubt that our Repair Café is gaining in popularity. About four dozen individuals pre-registered or walked in with household items. Attendees reported that they learned about the Cafe through word of mouth, local newspapers, social media, or because they’re return customers who receive our emails.
While attending, cafe guests are encouraged to become familiar with some of Sustainable Putnam’s other programs, such as Community Solar, Free Energy Consultations, or our Green Drinks socials.
Want to try your hand at repair? We’d love to expand this popular program with the assistance of additional “Repair Coaches.” No experience is necessary, and on-the-job training will be provided by our cheery crew of experts. If you like to tinker and would like to learn the art of repair, join us in June to try your hand at gluing ceramics, mending clothing, or rewiring a lamp — under the guidance of our experienced team. Special thanks to volunteer photographer Dale Riehl for capturing the action in these wonderful photos below!

Thank you to all the volunteers!
The treasured blanket that belonged to my father was repaired and made usable again.
My granddaughter’s fire truck and coat were also repaired.
Looking forward to the next one.
You’re very welcome, Joanne. We’re so glad that our wonderful volunteers were able to make all those repairs. They’re the best!
